Mount Pleasant Lane School

Mount Pleasant Lane Primary School (affectionately known as MPL) is a wonderful, lively part of the community of Bricket Wood. The majority of local children attend the school and many go on to study at some of the excellent secondary schools in the local area.

MPL is a 1½ form entry primary, set in spacious grounds that provide wonderful opportunities for our pupils to participate in a wide range of outdoor activities, including sporting events, nature walks and Forest Schools, an inspirational process, that offers learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

The original school was built in 1935, at the same time that major residential development started in Bricket Wood. In 1965, the infant school was opened and the two schools separately met the needs of the community until their amalgamation in 1989. The original junior school was rebuilt in 1993.

MPL School has therefore been an integral part of the Bricket Wood community for as long as modern Bricket Wood has been in existence, and even more so since the increased level of expansion from the 1980s onwards, with younger families moving into the village. An active Parent Teacher Association organises a number of functions, activities and fund raising events during the year, many of which are held in the school and Grounds. These events provide a good opportunity for the community of Bricket Wood to come together.

It is my belief that every child should have the opportunity to be the best they can be – to enjoy their schooling and achieve as well as they can. Learning is for life and we aim to give the children in our care the best skills possible to equip them for life beyond primary school.

There is much to celebrate at MPL and I am excited to lead the school into its next stage of development, building upon the success that the school already has and ensuring that everyone has a happy, fulfilling and successful time here. My ambition is to create a school community where everyone feels valued, has the opportunity to explore, develop their strengths and participate in new experiences. I also very much welcome the opportunity of continuing to develop the school’s links with the local community.

We are part of the Spiral Partnership Trust, a multi-academy trust which specialises in developing excellent primary schools. We collaborate with the other schools in the Trust to ensure that teaching and learning is of the highest standard possible.

If you are new to the area or haven’t visited our school yet, please do so as we are extremely proud of the children here and the interesting and creative work that they do. We are also proud of the excellent, dedicated team of staff who work here. One of us would be delighted to show you round the school and let the children speak for themselves!

We are also keen to encourage volunteers from the community to come in and support us by hearing children read or offering particular skills. If you are interested and willing to have the essential DSB check, please contact the school at admin@mountpleasant.herts.sch.uk.
