M25 Junctions 21a-23 Works: 19 September to 3 October & 17 to 24 October 2011
Post date: Sep 18, 2011 9:33:09 PM
This is to advise you that the Highways Agency has scheduled overnight works to alter the traffic management layout on both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M25 between junctions 23 and 21a. The work will be carried out in two separate stages.
The first stage will take between 7 and 10 nights and will commence on the 19 September and will take two weeks to complete. The works will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5am.
It is necessary for us to complete this work during the night as the work requires one lane to be closed in order for the works to be completed within Health and Safety Guidelines. Lane closures are only permitted at night when the traffic flow is lighter.
The following activities will be carried out
Removal and replacement of the steel barriers (varioguard). Traffic will run on 3 lanes of the clockwise carriageway including the hard shoulder. Lane 3 anti-clockwise will run in contraflow, while work is carried out to widen the anti-clockwise verge.
There will be no exit for anti-clockwise contraflow traffic at junction 22. Drivers should remain in lanes 1 and 2 to exit at junction 22, until February 2012 when this layout will change again.
Once the above has been removed, work will include
widening the anti-clockwise verge of the M25 between junction 23 and the River Colne crossing
surfacing
erecting overhead signs on gantries
loop cutting to install the traffic monitoring equipment in the road surface
removal and repainting of white lines
n October, work will then begin to upgrade the central reservation between the River Colne crossing and junction 21a. For approximately 7 consecutive nights from 17 October, changes to the road layout will involve:
Removal and replacement of the varioguard. Traffic will run on 3 lanes of both carriageways including the hard shoulder
This layout will continue until February 2012, when 4 lanes will be open as far as the River Colne crossing
Please note that this work will involve overnight lane and slip road closures. The Highways Agency website carries a schedule at this link http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/23733.aspx which may be helpful in planning your journeys.
The Local Authorities are aware of this work and night-time work has been agreed under Section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974.
