Abbey Line Rail Project: September 2011 Update

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) have been working closely with the Department for Transport (DfT), network Rail and the Office of Rail regulation to move the project forward. In looking at transfer of responsibility from the DfT to HCC, some issues have arisen, such as land ownership and responsibility for bridges and other structures, which need to be resolved before a Transport & Works Act Order can be issued to enable HCC to operate the service. 

Issues such as the possibility of new, rather than second hand vehicles and a more frequent service than the half hourly proposal are also being considered. 

All parties are keen to see this project progress, particularly as it is the first of its kind and It is hoped that things will speed up over the next few months. Further information and a new time scale for the project will be issued in due course.
